Detroit Zoo Visit 4/23/2010

Hello everyone,

This is my first full visit to the zoo since late Summer of last year. I did a mini visit last month, but I do not count that lol.

Here are my photos from today. I am way way behind in posting my pictures.

I have obtained a Canon EOS 10D with a 75-300mm lens. Most are from this camera, the other from my tiny wonder Canon SD1100. To see more, please visit my flicker account. To see a bigger picture click on it. (Then you can browse my other pictures too.)

Ducks and Geese are active with breading season. Random take off’s and chases. I was lucky to catch part of them.

I forget exactly a girl was starting to chase them or just me near by so he started squawking or hissing at her and towards us.

The storks were resting near the camels this time.

Not sure what these are and are with the camels.

This is our male Siberian Tiger. The two females have to be kept separate, so the ladies are out in the day, and the male in the evening and night. The zookeeper said she hid a treat in the front corner. But, he briefly sniffed and roamed around looking or walking. He never got it when i was there. I asked what it was and it she said it was like gross hamburger kind of like horse meat.

Detroit Zoo Tiger’s eye a seeing eye dog today!

Watch this YouTube Video I posted. When I go to show who they are watching, One Tiger starts to lower for a jump. I wonder what would have been if there were not people around the fence as the tiger did not seem interested in us! I was REALLY close to calling Park Safety, and probably should have! (I was a guest today). I also had in my mind planned out for any further movement to grab for my phone.

Here is a picture of our Tiger mote.

Also, some signs to remind you of dealing with animals!

Even though the second one is for the free roaming ones, it still applies to the rest! Please follow the rules at the Detroit Zoo and keep it safe for all visitors!!

Please check back soon. I will be blogging about the rest of my visit today over the next week.

11/4/07 Zoo Trip

I went to the zoo yesterday. I decided to leave home my HP PhotoSmart R727 6.x MP 3x Digital Camera for my Olympus 4MP Digital Camera with a 10x zoom to be able to see if I could capture the animals better with the zoom and hope the engine in the camera was better. It seems to be in most areas, but certain lighting conditions caused blurriness with the optical zoom over around 5x.

The hummingbirds are back at the zoo and got some really good shots with them there.

DetZoo 11407_0011

The Prairie Dogs were out in full force today too!

DetZoo 11407_0133

DetZoo 11407_0134

The Wolverine’s were decked out for the MSU and U of M game! Even caught one standing up when a zoo keeper went by in a bike.

DetZoo 11407_0139

DetZoo 11407_0140

I had a long pleasant talk with the two Australian Outback along with the Zoo Keeper Director. Got one sleeping here and the one by the barrow is the youngest baby.

DetZoo 11407_0126

DetZoo 11407_0129

Even the Bears want to play!!

DetZoo 11407_0120

Leamers are almost always moving and are not in a good posing position. This one gave me the opportunity. Even someone commented he/she did.

DetZoo 11407_0091

The Tigers were busy getting ready to pose then people watch then I am sure do what all cats do, sleep.

DetZoo 11407_0079

Then off to the Aviary/

DetZoo 11407_0058

DetZoo 11407_0048

These are kind of skiddish, but with their red eyes they kind of have a prehistoric personality. If I had a bad dream with birds attacking it would be these.

Then last but not least the Butterfly Gardens.

I did not go in the order of the way I went through the zoo. Please use the flicker thing on the left to go to my account and look at the rest I took. I hope I can get more people interested in the zoo and to come and visit and for though’s who cannot, can from their comfort of their own home. Please help promote this site! I would like to see this site get some regular visitors. – Eric
